Was Aston Martin a famous brand of cars before the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”? Why? Quotes from site www.quora.com

Kevin Spinks

Aston Martin was a very well known sports car manufacturer and Le Mans racer before the 2nd world war. After the war their DB series cars were stunningly beautiful hand built masterpieces.

Certainly Goldfinger in 1964 establishing that the onscreen Bond drives an Aston (as opposed to the on paper Bond who drives a Bentley) did wonders for getting vast numbers of people who’d never be able to afford an Aston, to want one.

Under Ford ownership Aston designed the mass produced DB7 (out of old Jag and Ford parts) which for the first time brought an Aston to compete in the Porsche 911 price range.

They were well known among enthusiasts but less well known among the general public. They were nearly forgotten again by the late 80’s though outside of Britain.
